Right now i have 9 tetras and a betta in a 15 gallon. The tettras usually just hang out around the lower level of the tank (Except for feeding). Was wondering if there were a couple top swimmers i could add so the top of the tanks isnt so lonley for my betta?

Hatchetfish and most killifish can be relied upon to stay in the upper 25% of the tank usually. They also are colorful and stay small enough not to crowd your tank.

You could try some Platty's or Danio's. However, in a 15 gallon tank it's possible you may be at your maximum bio load depending on what filtration you have. A general rule, and it depends on the breed, (I learned that the hard way) is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. Check up on your filtration and make sure you are not over 15 inches of fish, and that Betta I am sure makes more waste per fish it's same size then others. You would probably be better off getting a bigger tank or reducing the number of Tetra's before adding more.

Hatchetfish are a good choice for top swimmers, but you have to have a *fully* covered tank as they are jumpers. Any of the danios also inhabit the upper realm in the tank, that includes the flourescent colored ones and longfin ones.

Incidentally, you can beat the bioload factor (or the 1" per gallon rule) by having fish of different layers inhabiting the tank and by increasing the filtering in your tank. For example, for a tank your size instead of just one Pengion, run a double penguin or two of the single ones, plus, perhaps, a bio sponge filter.

Good luck.
