I highly doubt that the bloodwork will reveal birth control usage. The bloodwork they usually check for is for any type of infectious disease (HIV, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis) or drug use (Marijuana, recent alcohol, cocaine, barbituates). Birth control pills usually work by increasing the hormones that make the body think it's pregnant, and are similar to natural hormones. My personal guess is that it is highly highly unlikely (<1% change) that tests would point out ocp usage (I have never seen such a test done randomly or on purpose). I think I would not worry much about this. It is, however, fully your gf's rights to ask the hospital what things they test for, before she gives blood.

I work in a lab....the hormone level would show up if that is what she is being tested for. More than likely she is going to be tested for Hep A,B,&C, Measles/Mumps/Rubella....those types of things.....and then there is no worry about a hormone showing up and being reported to her parents. Further more, lab results are not typically sent to the patient. Some Dr's do send them but most dont. Your gf can talk with her dr to ease her mind, and to let him/her know that she does not want her parents to find out that she is taking birth control. By law, no dr can release any info regarding her sexual health to a parent.

No. They will check her for infectious diseases to make sure she doesn't have tuberculosis or hepatitis or something she could spread to patients, and they might check her for illegal drug use (but only if they get her consent to test for that. They won't do it behind your back.) And no they will not test for birth control use and they won't tell her parents. They will stick to things that are relevant to the job/volunteer position.
Every test they run on the bloodwork takes time and money. My own doc sends off blood work for me, say to see if I'm anemic...they won't tell him if my thyroid levels are low unless he also sends an order to check for that. Because they don't spend tons of time and money performing every test known to man. They have to have a reason to look for something in order to do so. Time and money is short. So my doc has to send me back for another stupid test to check my thyroid because he didn't order a test for that when they did the anemia check. See? They won't just test and test for everything on earth as if they have unlimited time and money to do so. This isn't a csi murder case or something. They will look for what they are told to look for (infectious agents and narcotics, probably). Many many girls and women are on birth control and it is legal and not anything they would be concerned about, so they won't look for it.

No they should not contact her parents. Birth control is merely naturally found hormones in the body. It may show that they are raised but it should not send a red flag or anything. If her DR. asks if she is on medication, I would tell him/her though. Legally they can not tell her parents. How old is she? If she is super young it might raise some concern.

They won't be testing for birth control. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any way they'd be able to detect the birth control anyway.
And even if for some reason they did, legally, they cannot tell anyone what they found in the results unless she gives them permission, accoridng to HIPPA. Even her parents. Minors have rights as well.

unless it is something that will effect the patients at the hospital or her own health, they can't do or say anything. they wouldn't know the difference anyway...a lot of parents put their daughter on birth control for many reasons. so if it does show up...its not any of their business as to why or how she got on birth control. just be careful please!!

Relax! I've never even heard of a blood test that looked for birth control usage...the bloods tests that they take are standard, and look for specific kinds of drug usage, like pot, narcotics, etc. They are looking for illegal drug usage.
It will not show on her blood work, and they will not tell her parents!!

Since birth control is hormones, I doubt they're testing her hormones with the blood test. They probably COULD see the birth control, but that's probably not what they're looking for, so they probably won't see it. And even if they do, they can't tell her parents. That's illegal.

It probably can, since bloodwork can tell if you are pregnant or not. It can tell if you're drunk, on drugs, taking steroids, etc. Birth control pills are hormones, so it MAY be able to detect it. If she is under 18, they CAN tell her parents, but probably won't. Besides, lots of women are on the pill for reasons besides birth control. She can always say she's on it to regulate her periods or make them lighter or make her PMS not as bad or clear up her skin. Those are all legitimate reasons young girls (even virgins) are on the pill.
