Good manners defined recently / newly are no waste of time rather they are very good in modern world. Why I am answering in this way because you are saying good manners in modern world. So basically if your question is good manners defined in modern world then its not at all a waste of time. Manners for the discussion good manners also change from time to time. Modern world means modern society meaning there by some people who form the society so people like some common manners to communicate and evrybody almost appreciate the good defined manners. So if somebody says that good manners are waste of time then just try to understand that what are the good manners which he/she likes. For example arabians have different tradition and they may not like US people good manners or Hindus / Indians may not like Hibrews good manners. So in general if they meet then they may say good manners of Hibrews are waste of time and arabians can say good manners of US people are waste of time because good manners defined by them may by radically different what they define. Good manner is never a waste of time in any type of world. Having good manner is very important for success and respect. If you don't have that, you will not make friends, will not be respected and people will never try to help you. A manner less person is called rude. Do you like rude people? Or how would you feel if someone is rude to you? Respect is a two way street. You have to earn it. You can earn it by showing respect for others. If you are manner less, you will never be liked in any society. It is a very good subject to discuss in the school. Do some research and find out what are the advantages and disadvantages of being well mannered person versus ill mannered person. Have fun during debate.

No, good manners always have a place in society. Even though it seems like the majority of people are rude and inconsiderate, it is important to remain classy and dignified. Those who do not know how to act properly should be pitied, not followed.
I would actually venture to say that they are even more important in today's world because of technology and gadgets, people tend to forget how to interact with other humans face to face. If anything, they should be more prevelant....what happens when people cannot email, text or IM? They fall to pieces because they cannot SPEAK in a way that conveys and idea and makes sense. Americans need to start saying Thank You, Please, Sir, Ma'am, or Your Welcome more often!

Good manners declining due to the major declining influences of our society on youngsters. Eg. declining moral values, less time for parents to sit at home and dicipline their kids--its a fast paced, on the go lifestyle. A convenience lifestyle for the parents and kids. This neglect will snowball into a society of kids who find no need to be polite and have less morals, compared to their grandparents.

Good manners are a great investment instead of a waste of time. They will get you places. Good manners convey 'the right attitude' therefore, they are an excellent means of judging a person. You can tell a persons parents, lifestyle, socio-economic class perhaps and upbringing just by their manners. Nobody wants other ppl to be rude to them. It is common curtesy for someone to be polite. It is important in the sense that ppl will automatically have good/bad first impressions of you. Applied to the modern world? Well It is extremely important. Why are business letters always utterly polite when the point to get across is heartbreaking? You want ppl to like you have have good relations with you, so you better have good manners. For business, you meet ppl quickly and for a short period of time. In that short period of time they can't read your soul, so you must MAKE a first impression for them by being very polite. It is a convenient way for them to like you quickly and want to deal with you.

We live in a society where knowing the right ppl gets you places--ppl skills are important. Manners are an excellent way for ppl to like you. People like to be respected, good manners are just a form of respect.

Even if you had the most angelic personality and bad manners, you would not be liked by many ppl. Only a few ppl who took the time to get to know you, beyond the rude exterior would know how great you are. If you had an angelic personality and good manners, you would be a ppl magnet. ppl would want to be by you to feel respected.

Unlike the old days, we don't have time to sit down and chat for hours to each person for them to get to know you. Therefore first impressions are that important in this fast paced society.

Never. , good manners are giving us to a prestigious place in the world. everybody respect u.u find honour from then if ur behavior is good, i do'nt say that u obey honesty if u cheat no matter but manner is good always, u take ex. for our current leaders, sant -mahatma. some of them not good but their manner was good so they were respectable. Many people tend to throw manners out the window, or at least most manners. But if we follow their example, society would farther degrade. I believe it important to be manner conscious and install that in those around me.
