I have a wireless network that has two desktops and two shared printers. I just bot an HP notebook and was able to easily connect to the network and share the internet connection with no problems. For some reason the notebook cant see the shared printers or folders on the network. Is there a step I missed? What do I need to do to get my laptop to see and print to shared printers?

Sounds like you may not have joined the laptop to the same "workgroup" as the other computers. Rerun the networking wizard on one of the desktop and comfirm what "workgroup" they belong to. Then check that the laptop is in the same group.

You can usually see the other computers, even if you are not in their workgroup, by going to the "Run" in the Start button and typing in "\\" followed by the IP address of the desktop you want to see (such as \\192.168.0.100).

Go to the tcp/ip settings in your notebook. Click advanced and use the wins tab to set always use netbios over tcp/ip, then turn off use lmhosts. When the machine argues about an empty wins address override this. Turn all your firewalls on, then set the exception for file and printer sharing on all of them. Netbios is essential to small network browsing, so MS set it to turn off when it sees a router?

if you know the ip address of the computers just open up my network places and type in \\x.x.x.x replace the x.x.x.x with the ip of the system you are looking at. Another better way is to make sure that all systems are in the same workgroup that will make it easier to locate those resources..
