Many baseball historians still consider Babe Ruth as the best ballplayer to ever play the game.

Baseball's greatest player was it's craziest player and that was Ty Cobb. Had this man been loved by fans there would be no question. His numbers are astounding.

#1 all-time batting average - .366
#2 all-time hits - 4,189
#2 all-time runs scored - 2,246
#4 all-time stolen bases - 892
#5 all-time rbi's - 1,937

Won 12 batting titles ( 9 in a row )
Hit over .300 for 23 seasons in a row
Hit over .400 3 times
1 Triple Crown

I could easily say Babe Ruth but Ty Cobb did this on a team that had a third of the talent that Babe Ruth was surrounded by. Just to think if Cobb had any talent on his team what his numbers would have looked like.

Ruth was the most dominating player ever, and when we add in that he was a very good pitcher in his younger days, he pretty much dusts the field.

Williams may have been a slightly better hitter.

Cobb. Wagner. Mays. Aaron. Musial. That Guy In SF So Many Love To Hate.

Among pitchers, the three candidates for Best Ever are Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, and Roger Clemens.

Babe Ruth because of the combination of hitting and pitching and because he hit with power in a time when others didn't...he was the most important player too because of what he did for the game and the legendary icon that he became in America.

Other nominees...Willie Mays, Henry Aaron, Ty Cobb.

Babe Ruth is often named as the best player to ever play the game. Others who may be considered one of the greats would be Joe DiMaggio for his hitting streak, Hank Aaron for his homerun records, and Cal Ripken Jr. for his consecutive game streak.

Ted Williams- The guy gave up five years at the prime of his career to fight for our country. He still managed to have a .344 career batting average, 521 home runs, 2654 hits, and 1839 RBIs. He won the Triple Crown the before he left for WW2 and the MVP the year after he got back from fighting.

Nobody will admit it but Pete Rose is the best to play the game. All infield and outfield positions...most hits...gold gloves...dominant throughout.

Ironically, Bonds could've had this distinction without the juice!

In addition to being one of the greatest hitters ever, Babe Ruth also PITCHED 11 shutouts in his career. No one else even comes close to that type of versatility.
