Because a bee's stinger breaks off and continues to pump bee venom into the wound. While this DOES kill the bee it's dreadfully painful for the human participant in this interspecies encounter. The stinger should be removed and ice applied. A wasp's stinger on the other hand does NOT break off and the wasp can merrily sting a person multiple times.
SO....remove the stinger....THEN explain the difference between biting and stinging.

I heard that taping a copper penny on the sting will help.

Your 4year old is a 4 year old it's not going to know the difference between a sting and a bite! I bet when you were 4 years old you didn't know the difference either. Your child is crying becase the sting hurts, put some amonia on it. Quick!

She's probably still crying because a bee "bite" hurts like crazy. You should probably check and see if the stinger is still in her. That would make it hurt even longer.

It was probably a wasp that stung her since wasps have the ability to sting over and over again without losing there stingers she is probably felling te poison and other things that a wasp uses...put some vinagar over the sting site, it'll make it stop stinging

I don't know when was the last time you got stung, but yes, it hurts quite awhile! Use an ice pack to help numb it a bit.
There is also a shock factor to consider. Kids get really cared when something they thought was innocuous actually hurts them.
Monitor your child for awhile to ensure she does not get a reaction which, while rare can be quite serious!

HAHA! That's terrible! Don't squeeze the stinger it just injects more venom...or whatever bees have...Anyway, be careful taking it out. And give her a hug from the Yahoo!s on here :)

Because it stings,,,all-so when ever she sees the bit/sting mark she will remember what happened. When ever my son looked at his bandage after his needles he would cry, he would be fine until he looked at it. Kids are tooooo sweet.=)
