Does the Gay community as a whole actually believe that 10% of the American population is gay? Does the American population as a whole believe that 10% is gay? Would it surprise you to know that the reasearch I have been exposed to indicated the number is actually less that 2% nation wide?
What are your thoughts?

My sources are Christian programs like Focus on the Family, CBN, TBN, and many Christian authors as well. Most of these individuals cite US cencus results. I do agree that geographic areas, and metro cities can be more that 10% gay. I was just wondering what people think about the subject.

I heard that it was 1%, I suppose it depends on what source you use for your info. Of course it makes sense for the gay community to project a desire for more people to be like them, and they attempt to act as if there are more gays now than ever before. I have always understood that there has never been more than 1% of any population in the world that was gay. Oh well, I guess they've got to feel a part of something greater than themselves, but I'm sure if you took a percentage of a community that has more homosexuals per capita (like the east village, NYC, or Mid Town/Buckhead, Atlanta, ga.) than any other community, your numbers may be biased. A group will always choose the demographic which will make the results of any poll or survey lean in the desired direction. The same is true for any poll, whether it be conducted by the CDC, or the evening news, or the Wall Street Journal.

they say 10% of the ppl in Cape Town South Africa where i live is gay and that is the highest in the world. CT is considered the gay capital so i seriously doubt that the same stat applies to america also. Besides the figure in CT is also inflated because a lot of gay ppl come live here cos its so liberal and they can get married and the figure isnt natuaraly that high. Most stats are not accurate i think. There are always some factors that are left out or the model is just inaccurate.

honestly I'm not against gays at all but I agree with you completly , I have seen so many shows that make it seem like there are 200 million gays out of our 300 million population in America . its absurd not every boy in America wants to be a women and not every girl wants to be a boy , the fact is 1 to 2 percent of the U.S. population is gay and some even say that is too high !

Dan Savage of the Savage Love sex advice column cites the percentage as being "around 2%."
Do you know that Jews are about the same percentage of the population in the US?

Cite the research and the credible source it's from and then we'll listen.
There are also many in the "closet" and many bisexuals who are married and wouldn't want to tell anyone of their feelings. It would therefore be impossible to do any accurate research in this area.

Maybe 2% admit to being gay but I think the number is probably closer to 10%.

This I know: the teen years are an impressionable one, and it can be easy to convince them that they are gay when they otherwise would be just normal kids. Most teens find themselves in a short phase where they are unsure about their sex.
That's one of the reasons why it's so important for the gays to infiltrate schools with their sex ed and acceptance programs.

I wouldnt give ANY credence to FOTF's research....it makes no difference what any one group, etc. thinks the percentage is; in the first place, we will never know...truly gay people are just people like anyone else; some will admit they are, some never will. and besides, whether the figure is 1% or 90% WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE????!?!?!?!?!? people will live their lives any way they want, regardless of what organized religion thinks....

I agree with the others. What difference does it make. And if it is only 2% of the population, that makes the hysteria about homosexuals even more ridiculous-though any homophobia is ridiculous. Live and let live.
