My son has quite a bit of hair now and the cradle cap isn't coming off now. We've tried baby brushes and oil, but because he has so much hair, it seems to be extra difficult to get it off. Help!

my pediatrician told me to only use baby oil. at night after her bath we put it on her scalp and then reapplied in the morning. and washed it off that evening. we applied exery other day (mon, wed, fri) and after a little over a week it was gone.

I used a product called gentle naturals cradle cap s hampoo. My duaghter started geting cradle cap at about a year old. My doctor told me not to use "adult" dandruff shampoo on her. The only problem I seen with it, and it wasn't really a problem is that because emma had so much hair it left a oily kinda residue on her hair after her hair dried. Like I said not a problem.

Another thing I did was but baby oil on the spots of cradle cap and let it soak in for a while then too a fine tooth comb and combed it out. Make sure you let it soak long enough and you put enough on. It'll soften that stuff right up and it'll be easier to get off.

Your son's cradle cap will go away at some point. Emma had it from about 1 year old until she was about 17 months old.

Oh boy...I had the same problem. My son has so much hair and he had terrible cradle cap. My pediatrician ended up having me use Nizoral - a fairly expensive over the counter bottle of dandruff shampoo. It was about $12 for a small bottle but it got a lot better. The first couple of times I did it I used the olive oil on his scalp with a cradle cap brush, then washed his hair with the Nizoral. But be careful because if it gets into the baby's eyes it stings.

I used Aquaphor on my son, and it worked like magic. I tried baby oil and a comb, and the garbage you can buy called 'Cradle Cap Treatment' and nothing made a difference at all until my cousin, who is a nurse, told me to put Aquaphor on it, and within about three days, it had cleared up almost completely.

You can find it anywhere- Walgreens, Walmart, Bigg's, CVS, anywhere like that, and it's something like $4 for a tube. It's in a blue and white tube or package.

The only drawback to it is that it is pretty thick, so it will make your baby's hair matted and greasy, but if you put it on and rub it in, and then put a hat on the baby for about an hour, then you can wash it out if you need to go somewhere. And what I did was put it on really thick and put a hat on my son overnight.

If you stop using it as soon as the flakes go away, it will probably come back, so continue to use if for 5 or so days after the flakes dissapear.

We bought the Mustela shampoo for newborns. It is designed to prevent and treat cradle cap. Our baby isn't here yet (due in two weeks), but I would suggest trying this shampoo. It got excellent consumer reviews on www.babiesrus.com and it only costs $10. You can get it at babies r us.

Oh, also, make sure you are combing or brushing your babies hair to help get the flakes out.

I know your problem. My little boy was born with an ungodly amount of coal black hair, he looked like he had sideburns it was so long and none of it fell out. I did everything I could think of I even bought the shampoo for it and all the expensive stuff out there but nothing worked. Then I used baby oil on his hair and on his forehead I let it soak about 10 minutes and then I combed it out. It took twice doing it but it finally came out.

for one i would say go to the doctor first, but in the mean time. try baby oil and use a fine tooth comb to loosen the flakes from his scalp. it takes a while but as long as you keep at it, you will get it under control. i wouldn't put adult shampoo on him unless the doctor said it was ok. a baby's skin is very sensitive.
