First, let me say that I have no feelings about Paris Hilton personally one way or the other. Call me a neutral observer.

To get to the question, I actually think she's probably being singled out for a harsher punishment because of her celebrity status. Let me explain why this is my thinking.

I've been to traffic court a few times. Every single time I've gone, there are always a few individuals who were caught driving while on the revoked list. Some were repeat offenders, and never once was one of them ever given jail time for a punishment. Of course, there were stiff fines to be paid, but never jail time.

I think that jail should be reserved for real criminals, not for driving offenses (unless under special circumstances) Driving on the revoked list isn't one of those circumstances. Should Hilton be found guilty and made to pay severe fines? Sure. Jail time? I think its a bit extreme for the offense.

Just my opinion.

And she continues to get behind the wheel. Pretty blatant disregard for the law. She is getting what she deserves. At the very least, she could show some remorse, hire a driver! Most people don't have that luxury of choice. She chose to drive on a suspended license, she chose to drive after drinking, she chose to ignore the laws that apply to everyone.

It's 45 Days in the clink.

If any of us got a DWI and violated our probation we'd get the same punishment.

She got what she deserves. She doesn't think so, but that's because she's had everything in life handed to her, and no that things aren't going her way, she's distraught.

Cruel?

She was convicted of an offence and given probation (we won't put you in jail if you follow some rules)...not cruel

She ignored the rules set out for her so they ignore her probation and put her in jail for punishment.

What's cruel or unfair about that?

She deserves what she got. Just because she's a celebrity doesn't mean she's above the law. Maybe she'll actually learn something from this. We can hope so, anyway.

Driving drunk or with a suspended license is stupid. I'm glad she's getting locked up for 45 days so that she can't get into any drunk driving accidents with other motorists.
