please can you tell me the uses and abuses of performance management

"performance management" is a term used to mean "standing over the worker and telling them what to do untill they get it right"

Uses - bringing slakers and otherwise hopeless cases up to an acceptanble standard.

Abuses - picking on someone for personal reasons and making life hell for them untill they leave

Companies that have implemented proper 'induction' processes (i.e. training & monitoring etc.) for new employees) have little need for on-going "performance management" since all the hopeless, incapable & work shy cases would have been weeded out during the first 13 weeks ..
