...that's a pretty tough question, considering the calibur, spectrum and sheer number of horror films out there...

If I was restricted to one and only one horror film, it would have to be 1964's Italian Gothic romantic shocker, entitled "Danza Macabra", released here in the US as "Castle of Blood"

After a most privilaged conversation with author Edgar Allan Poe, a braggart & insolent writer accepts a bet that he cannot spend the night alone in a reputed haunted castle on All Soul's Eve, an endevour from which no one has supposedly ever survived...

Once night falls at the castle, several wayward spectres...travelers, scholars and other foolish mortals who accepted the challenge, and who had been murdered therein...return to life, graphically reliving their deaths, and seeking to kill the hapless writer for his blood, in a vain attempt to stay alive beyond that one night.

The almost supernaturally beautiful and ravishing Barbara Steele (the Christina Ricci of her time), as one of the living dead spectres, falls in love with the writer, as he does she, tries to hasten his escape from the accursed castle.

The film gives new meaning to the term, 'chilled to the bone'; it bears a distinct and compelling...almost hypnotically Gothic atmosphere, that irresistably draws the viewer into the ghostly/ghastly/gory proceddings. One invaritably associates the character of the writer, in a most intimately disturbing, yet romantically compelling way. You find yourself wanting desperately to escape from these haunted halls, and yet, strangely, deep with your oh-do-dark recesses, you find yourself wanting to stay, as well.

Candidly, I must admit, upon each and every viewing of the film, I find myself longing to escape to that macabre and ethreal world, as strange at that sounds...

My favorite horror movie is IT.

I do however love all zombie movies and my fave one of those is Shawn of the Dead (just because it makes fun of all of the other zombie movies).
