My almost ex-husband (divorce is final end of the month) called me last night and acted all sweet and wanted to know if I would give him a 2nd chance. I said no and he quickly turned into a mean angry man. He threatened that if he ever saw me he didnt know what he would do and if he saw me w/ another man, he would beat up both of us. I've never been afraid of him before, but the way he was talking last night scared me. I called the police and let them know what happened, but in order for them to enforce anything they would have contacted him and I didnt want him to freak out when he was already mad. I just want to move on with my life and be happy again, and he's not letting me do it. How can I make him move on and realize that there is no chance for us but he doesn't need to threaten me if I wont be with him. I'm really scared that he will hurt me sometime, what can I do to prevent this from happening???

keep a journal of all the conversations and threats, date, time, word for word, when you file a restraining order - you cant be vague like "he threatened me" they want to know exactly what he said or did.

I don't know what state you're in, but domestic violence is on arise. And even if it was only a threat, it's still a form of domestic violence...When you called the police last night, they should have instructed you to go to the commissioner's office to file charges...

My suggestion to you is, get yourself a Smith and Weston and a protect (restraining) order. Even though a restraining is suppose to keep the abuser away from the victim, it doesn't. They will break the law no matter what...If you really fear for your life, end all communication with your husband unless if pertains to your children (if you two have any), then he should speak to the children only and through a supervised person. Get your numbers changed, change the locks on you house, and inform friends and family of his behavior...

You need to talk to a lawyer about getting a restraining order. That will keep him from contacting you or coming near you. Then, if he does, the police can have him jailed.

If you are really scared, follow through with the police and get a restraining order.
