I feel that I need new ones every six months or so because they start getting yellowish colored. The thing is that I buy good quality bras and they cost about $40 each, I can't afford to go out and buy 3-4 bras every 6 months? What do you do? Is there a way to prevent the discoloration, I don't even understand why it even gets discolored.

I buy a couple of good quality bras once a year, and I get other bras for everyday wear (t-shirt bras, sport bras etc.) perhaps once every 6 months.

Try not to wear the good quality ones all the time, unless a special occasion arises. Invest in some cheaper bras that offer good support but that you can wear without worring about their appearance (ie. simple, sexy t-shirt bras)

I agree with the suggestion above - try using gentle handwashing liquid (like Victoria's Secret lingerie wash) for your good quality bras. I use "Softly" (also recommended for washing wool). Hang them out to dry.

The discolouration in worn fabrics are pretty much from bodily sweat. Keep in mind that we all sweat on a hot day, in hot temperatures, and when we've been exercising. So wear different bras for those occasions.

Another way to avoid the appearance of discolouration is the colour of the bras you choose. I recommend avoiding white bras especially in the beforementioned circumstances (when you're getting sweaty) as discolouration will be most obvious in this colour, over time. Try going for other colours if you can, such as red, purple, black (you can always get away with anything in black), any bright/dark colour really.

Cheers.

Our bodies for some reason must naturally produce something that does this, my bras turn out the same way. I was told at a boutique to wash my bras in a solution made just for that, but not a product like woolite because it breaks down the material in the bras. I use the lingerie wash from Victoria's Secret, it smells great and is gentle. Never wash or dry your bras, this will cause them to wear much more quickly. Hand wash and lay out to dry. To get the yellowish out, you would probably have to bleach it. You may want to just put a little bit of bleach in your water every couple of washings to prevent them from staining.

I go to Victoria's Secrets a lot & I noticed some of the colored bras I get turn yellowish after washing it (especially pale blue colors). I was told that their lining bleeds through easily (not sure which brand you shop for, but if it's VS, that could be the case for yours, too). I used a lingerie bag to wash them in & always hang them to dry, reshaping them of course. I also use a gentle detergent from VS as well. It seems to keep them around longer. I've found the "Angels" style doesn't stay useful too long... but I've had a few Body by Victoria bras last me over a year.

At least every two months. The elastic support seems to stretch out by then (that includes Victoria Secret). Maybe E-bay might have some for sale. Or a private vendor that might hold private intimate parties for less prices. Not sure on the discoloration, wash intimates in a special zipper bag and use woolite and hang dry.

To decrease the wear on bras, hand wash in gentle detergent and lay out to dry. I sometimes wash them on gentle cycle in the washer, but never dry them in the dryer. The heat breaks down the elastic. Bleach and other strong detergent also breaks down elastic. I have soaked a couple of items with baking soda in water to remove discoloration. It didn't seem to harm the material and did pretty good at making them white again, but I really don't know the affects it could have. It just worked for me.

First off don't ever wash your bras in the washer that's why they are changing colors simply wash them in the sink with a gentle soap. Me personally I purchase new ones almost every 2-3 weeks sometimes just depends on if I see something that I like.

Usually I buy a new bra whenever I see one that I think is cute or one that my boyfriend might like.
You might want to try washing them in Woolite or some type of laundry detergent for delicates or colors specificly. They also make lingerie bags for washing them in and always hang them to dry - NEVER dry in the dryer. Also don't wash after every wear and also don't wear a bra 2 days in a row. The bra needs time to regain it's shape after being stretched out while you wear it.

discoloured? are they white discolouring to yellowish? it might just be perspiration, in which case soak them in a laundry soaker you can get from your supermarket.

buy off the internet, or locate a clearance outlet and buy from there. I'm a 34G. the only way i can afford to buy bras is through clearance outlets - else i'm looking at about $70 - $90 australian dollars
