John Reid has held high profile jobs for the last decade. With the changing of the guard this was the perfect time to take a break or move on, and as he said, Brown can then make his own cabinet. The idea of a new leader is to have a new leader, not the same 1.
Reid also would have to have stayed in his position till the next G/elections which he didn't want to do, according to a govt aide on the news yesterday. Mick

I think you hit the nail on the head the first time with Rats and Sinking Ships. The Labour Party is more fatally wounded in the publics opinion, than the Titanic after the iceberg. They are doomed and they know it too, even if they won't admit it.
We don't want them, We don't want Brown, a stitch up job if ever we saw one, what other walk of life could you just walk into the top job without any kind of screening/selection process?... it sucks!
Tony we are glad to see the back of you, will you do us a favour and take the other idiots with you when you leave, particularly the stupid Hewitt!

There are far too many Scots at Westminster, although I always used to admire Scottish people, there are definitely a surfeit in the houses of parliament. Perhaps they are going to the aid of the party in Scotland. Sounds as though it might need all the help it can get.

As both are scots, shouldn't they be rounded up and sent packing to help the new parliament over the border?
I loved the comment on the BBC which described the fiasco of the scots new election system as "worthy of a banana republic"!
Couldn't have put it better myself!

I think they're getting out while Gordon isn't around. Has he done a disappearing act (again) since last Thursday?

Rat is a good name for those who agreed to attack Iraq just because the Israeli Americans wanted some support. I have long thought the attack on Iraq was just to protect Israel
