It would be your soundcard. If you got a driver disc with the PC then look for and install the sound driver. If you don't have a disc then got to dells website. Hover over support and help, click driver downloads and choose your Dell model and download and install the sound driver. Should do the trick.

Hi ,
There is nothing to worry abt this issue. Its just the drivers for the sound device is not installed on the computer. The following is the driver for your model of the comptuer. Dell Dim 8300

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R58182&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8300&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2430&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=70114

Download the driver by clicking on download and install it on the computer. and the link also contains installation instructions. Please reply back if you have any further issues. I will be glad to help.

P.S.** Even after restarting the computer there is no sound on the computer, then the driver must be installed for the Sound card. So in that case you can use the service tag to get the correct drivers.

Regards
Kiran.
