Of course we do, it is "to the person" or a personal attack.
Of course you fail to leave an example....again.
What is your idea of reasoned debate? I have tried to have debates with Liberals and have not been the one to attack, they have.
However, If you say certain things that are completely offensive, you must expect to be attacked at times.
Example: If you come out and tell people America sucks, then expect many people to get angry. Most people love their country.
or,
If you say something racist about someone, expect to be attacked, as this is wrong.

I think the biggest problem right now that might result in conservatives getting mad at you is perhaps your own personal attacks upon the President, as he represents America, or if you say that America should surrender to Islamofascism, as most Americans are not cowards.

I prefer reasoned debate, quite frankly.

The reverse can also be said to be true. If someone espouses a conservative viewpoint, they are automatically labeled 'right wing.'
Have you ever heard anyone referred to as a 'left wing talk show host?' Nope!
However, we are constantly being bombarded with references to 'right wing' talk show host, or 'right wing' columnist, etc.
I am conservative on some issues, moderate on others, and downright liberal on some issues. I think that probably applies to everyone.
The day we stop using labels, particularly 'right wing,' is the day that I will believe that liberals are having a 'reasoned' debate.
I believe in being open minded.. but..... not so much that my brains fall out!

Ad hominem, ad nauseum, both sides use them, both sides annoy me by using them. Them, and cloning, are what make Yahoo! Answers (the Politics section, in particular), what it is: a quagmire of relentless and meaningless bickering. Fortunately, there are a few good seeds.

Oh, like me saying "I agree with the war in Iraq", and a Liberal responding "you and George Bush are stupid"?

Or, "why aren't YOU fighting in Iraq?"

I forgot about that one. Conservatives aren't the only ones dealing low blows.

You can't win a battle of wits with a witless person. Republicans always attack the questioner with such fine terms as "unpatriotic...treasonous...etc." Even when they know, or should know, that their name calling is unfounded. But hey, it makes them feel good.

Are you sure you're not acting a little one-sided, leveling such a broad and unsubstantiated attack, yourself?
