I don't want to overwhelm you. But, I will give you a lot of information. I hope you have given yourself time to choose and prepare your math project.

These are the standard topics that are generally taught within 9th grade mathematics, within the US.

Ratio and proportion
Basic concepts of statistics
Mathematical vocabulary
Direct and indirect measurement
Banks and banking
Investment
Budgeting
Insurance
Taxation
Graphs and tables
Informal geometry
Elementary algebra
Customary and metric measurement

I know that these are BROAD topics, but you can choose your favorite and then find something of interest within it. You can use your texts to help you on this topic. One source that you can utilize to choose a topic, may be too obvious...your primary Mathmatics texts' Table of Contents.

Generally, within the text, there are resources listed that you can refer to on specific topics. These resources can be found randomly within the texts, at the end of each chapter, within an index in the back, or the text may have them listed in all of these areas. These resources can help you focus on the topic that you choose.

Now, I'm from New York State. The New York State Board of Education has worked hard to create educational standards (guidelines that students are required to learn about in order to pass the regents exams). The standards are set for various grades. The link below is the New York State Standard for High School Mathematics, which gives Both a Math A and Math B standard. These standards include mathmathic performance indicators for 9th-12th grades. It covers topics relating to (You must have the Adobe program to read it):

MATH A & MATH B
Mathematical Reasoning
Number and Numeration
Operations
Modeling/Multiple Representation
Measurement
Uncertainty
Patterns/Functions

**This link also includes Assessment Examples and and Class Room Ideas for each level of Math (A & B). If you use the information (assessment examples and class room ideas, for example) from the NYS Math Standards, or any other resource for that matter, please be responsible and cite your sources.

Check it out...there may be a lot, but there are quite a few topics to choose from.

I wish you a lot of luck in choosing your topic, creating your project and submitting it. Have fun and cover something that interests you!
