There's more than one kind of hair algae. To find out what will get rid of yours the best, you'll need to identify the type you've got. Use this link and look at the different types of hair algae. Nest to the species is a number - find a fish or invert at the bottom of the page with the same number to see what species will eat yours.

Many times you do not need a fish to eat this. You did not say how big of a tank you have so I can not make any fish recomentations but I will tell you some other methods to get rid of it or to keep it under control.

One would be check your water for nitrates. This is what is feeding your algae. Also make sure your lights are on a timer and you have it set for no more than 8 hours a day. Consiter how much light your tank gets from sunlight as well.

Hermit crabs and snails are going to be the best biological combatant against hair algae in your tank. You would be supprised how many of these guys you can put in a tank! Here is a great website on hair algae in marine tanks.

Hermit crabs do not eat as much algae as you would think. snails, Lawnmower Blennie, goby's, jawfish, dottybacks, basslets, Tangs, Red Ramshorn Snails, AES Shrimp, Black Mollies (more than likely will have to buy them from freshwater stock) Sea slugs (these are the best for getting rid of algae)

Stay clear from the urchans and catfish for this job unless you have a fish only tank.

Tangs like algae. Yellow tang love green algae. The sail fin like algae but it like flake food better. Be sure to look at their gills and belly before you buy them. If the belly is sunk in do not buy the fish. If the gills are red and or flared possibly white things in the gills. or there are any white spots other than the one by the tail, do not by the fish. They are a bit expensive and you don't want one to die in a week and pollute your tank.
If you get a healthy tang it will last you 5 years or better.
Good luck

Hermit crabs and some types of snails will eat it but I would suggest picking up a Lawnmower Blennie, They are a awsome algae eater and are kind of funny to watch.
I have never had a problem with them nipping at anything but Algae.

All tangs with long noses, the most commonly available would be yellow, sailfin, and purple tangs.

Blue legged hermit crabs do a fantastic job, but you need an obscene amount of them. Also, a lot of fish each them so you need to read up a bit.
