Most of the conversation on the airways seems devisive and arrogant without doing much to raise any awareness, but to serve their own ratings. Americans deserve better.

You're very astute and your question is certainly a subject to notice. I agree except for the last sentence by adding "the world deserves better". Thank You for a pertinent query.

I believe the devisive rhetoric has been the case for the last 20 years. However, if you look at commentary historically (before WWI), the rhetoric was much worse and we survived.

Your right, Americans do deserve better. But when this country is awash with reality TV and celebrity tabloid shows what do you expect?

People in thie country have come to thrive on radical commentary. Look at how much air time, viewers and listeners people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O' gets.

Fear + American Idol / Hate = complacency and apathy.

Not to me...I don't have to agree with my fellow American to still respect their opinion and love'em for being like me...(opinionated and always willing to share it!) GOD BLESS THIS GREAT NATION!

edit...I realize that if you judged the fracture by reading on yahoo answer's, how Americans feel about each other, you might come to the conclusion that we are teetering on civil war at best...this simply isn't true...the other day my liberal neighbor helped me with my lawn (without being asked) and yes they know I am conservative, My democrat mother in-law called me yesterday just to see how I was doing, she also knows my views...My best friend is pro- choice, I am passionately pro-life...yet we would give our very lives to protect the other...our children play together and we all get together for bbq's in the back yard...so opinion's may vary, passions run high on both sides, but in my humble opinion, American people are still the best in the world, no matter what party they support...

You cant blame the conservatives alone for this. You have to lay blame on all of them-the media, the politicians, and the people that cater to it.

Both sides are constantly forcing the attack instead of sitting down and having legitimate discussions.

Political parties are far more interested in keeping power than they are in anything else, even being true to their supposed beliefs. It is in their best interest to make everything into an emotional fight rather than to educate the people and let them make their decisions based on logic and understanding.

Well,then you'll have to include Air America (is it still around). Randi Rhodes spole about her hatred of Bush and had the sound of gun shots in the background. I notice how freedom of speech is only ok for the left,everyone else should be censored..

Most people with intelligence are able to poke holes in most of the propaganda out there from both sides. That being said, I wish the media did tone down the decisive commentary like Glenn "D-Bag" Beck and Tucker Carlson.

Most of these people are less informed than your average citizen, yet preach their own opinions as if they were the gospel.

Let me guess;

you're a Liberal who is trying to push the "Fairness" Doctrine.

Because the only conversation on the airways that is "devisive and arrogant" comes from Air America, and that is certainly not "most" of the conversation.

It started with the Republicans trying to thwart Bill Clinton at anything he attempted. That changed the tone and after the impeachment attempt, Dems decided that they were not going to take it sitting down.

Now I am pretty disgusted with the whole process.
