I've always wanted to be an actress, and I've done a little bit here and there, but now at age 21 I'm ready to start taking it more seriously and make it my career. Anyone have any suggestions on making this work? I've looked at American immigration laws and I'd pretty much have to marry an American in order to stay, and I'm not doing that. I have the funds, and I have somewhere to stay, should I just wing it until I get work?

And also is 21 too old to start? Theres 13 year olds who have had more experience than I have.
Thanks.

You're never too old to start! But I'm not sure why you feel you need to come to the states right away? Don't get me wrong, we'd love to have you. But are there no opportunities up North at all?

Believe me, the competition is just as fierce here as anywhere else, and anywhere you can find *work* will get you started on your career.

Consider getting work in Canada first, if at all possible. Moving here is a big expense and commitment, and it would do you well to have some more notches in your resume.

You're never too old to start, at least you're not jaded yet :-) The 13 year olds are going through puberty and no longer cute. Now they're looking for 18 and older people to play 14 - 17 year olds. Anyways, stay as long as your work visa will let you and give it a go. I would send your headshots and resumes ahead of you to see if you get any bites or even better, find agencies in your area with LA affiliates and let them know that you want to work in LA for a while and see if they'll set it up for you. If you already have an agent in Canada, start there. Go to SAG.org if you don't and find some legitimate agents to send your stuff to. Maybe you can find someone who will work with you at least on a probationary basis... say 90 days?

Good luck!
