Hi
I thought i have told my penpal my nationality and I asked hers.
she told me where she was from but had written
" where are you from .I guessed where you are from but i dont want to be presumptuouse about those kind of things."

what does presumptuouse mean?
does it mean that i have crossed the line and have been rude or poked my nose into her buisness?
what should i tell her now?
have a nice day.
thanX for any help.

no, not rude at all. Presumptuous (< correct spelling) just means to assume, from incomplete information. In this case, your penpal took a guess as to where you are from but didnt want to state her guess to you, but would rather have you let her know, in case her guess was wrong.

Why do you think you were rude i dont think so afterall you are penpals so its info that you need to share only thing that wont be nice for you to do if the is from a place you dont approve and you stop writing to her, now that wont be nice, but there is nothing wrong with what you asked will you be offended if i ask where you are from ??

That doesn`t sound rude to me. It`s a pretty innocent question, and maybe she misunderstood what you told her. Just continue on and have a great chat. Presumptuous means she is assuming where your from.

To make it short, no you haven't been rude. She was saying that SHE didn't want to be presumptuous with YOU by asking you your nationality. Tell her again and say "oh its okay" or something like that.

i see no hurt in asking about one nationality unless you say some thing bad about that nationality just take a print of this page after getting as many answers as you can and send it her.., she will understand that you were not rude...bye

Presumptuous means to be excessively forward or assuming. No you were not rude and there is nothing wrong with your question.

It means acting like you know it all already.
You haven't been rude, now you just tell her where you are from and ask her if that's what she had guessed.

She means that she guessed where you might be from, but she doesn't want to be "persumptuous" by assuming her guess is right. No harm done here.
