I paid my dues and moved on with my life, but now I was interested in going to college to become an RN but I don't know if I can do so with a felony on my record. It was non violent and non drug/sexual related crime, and it has been 7 years since then. Does anyone know If I can become an RN in the state of Ohio with this on my record?

Thanks!

I would look into the State Board of Ohio Rules.

You can call them and ask or use this website to view the FAQ's.

The rules vary by state.

After 7 years there should be nothing preventing you from becoming an RN, unfortunately you records are never really erased, I know this only because of the military. Fortunately some places will still accept you regardless. It's all about finding a good place to get your foot in the door.

Your best bet would be to just ask. Call the local hospital, speak with Human Resources and ask (anonymously) about their hiring practices. You can also ask at the college you are thinking of attending. If you have a felony that will prevent you from working in that field, they shouldn't allow you to enter the program. Some schools are less diligent about that than others though, so check it out.

IF YOU GOT THE FELONY AT 18, YOU WERE STILL A MINER AND YOUR RECORD SHOULD BE SEALED. BUT IF THAT IS NOT THE CASE, THEN YOU CAN PAY A CERTAIN AMOUNT TO HAVE ( 1 ) FELONY EXPUNGED FROM YOUR RECORD. ASK SOMEONE FROM THE COURT HOUSE THERE IF THIS IS POSSIBLE , AND HOW IT CAN BE DONE.

Check with your state's licensing board, but I doubt it. In my state, most places that hire nurses always do background checks on the potential employees.

I don't think so, not with a felony. A misdeamenor yes, but not a felony.

I think if you're honest on your application you shouldn't have a problem. There's a HUGE nursing shortage. Good luck.
