If by flicking you mean rubbing against objects in the tank, then something is irritating their skin certainly. It could be water chemistry or parasites.
Check all of the typical water parameters to be sure it's not excessive ammonia or nitrites and that the pH is in an acceptable range. If those are all ok then I would suggest a treatment for parasites perhaps a bit more comprehensive and powerful than the treatments already used. Paracide would be my first choice for this situation followed by Clout as a last resort "big gun" treatment.
Best of luck with them

Hi Antkj
It still could be whitespot or some kind of parasite. You can use an aquarium salt, the best one to use is AQUALIBRIUM. It will help promote the the health of you fish. Just follow the instructions on the box. For best results use it in conjunction with whitespot treament.
Plus a regular water change in a weekly basis helps.

Aquarium salt is always suggested as long as you dont have a planted tank. Some cichlids will flick as a behavioral habbit. If you see them rubbing/filcking off of rocks constantly and they seem irritated and are not acting normal then I would look at gill flukes and then possable other parisites. Flashing (technical term for what your fish are doing) is the number one sign of gill flukes. They need speciallized medication for flukes in order to kill them. Good Luck!

I had a large Venustus who used to do this all the time, though nothing was wrong with him.
If they appear healthy, just let them alone.
Slightly brackish water should make them more comfortable, and make sure they have some gravel on the bottom to play with. But I wouldn't alter the environment too much if they're generally healthy.

In the absence of any disease and all water tests showing normal levels....Might I suggest that your Cichlids are doing some of their natural mating displays? I ONLY suggest this in the ABSENCE of any problems with the nitrate, ammonia levels, etc., in your tank.
