Can you know the whereabouts(country,city,etc) of someone you are talking to on yahoo messenger?

I've been chatting with someone on yahoo messenger and he says he can know my whereabouts . I did not give him my Ip. Does yahoo messenger reveal the Ip of the people you are chatting witrh, or is there some other way to know there whereabouts?

Have you communicated to this person by email as well? Your IP address may not be masked and displaying full headers can provide a general IP location using one of several tools such as GeoBytes or GeekTools. It won't give the person a full address, more of a general location.

No, they can't tell where you live without the cooperation of your ISP and a court order.
