What is the mechanism behind the invisibility cloak that has been recently invented by Indiana research team?

I saw it in the newspaper and was curious to know.It was invented by some university in Indiana.

The key is bending light waves. It uses metamaterial to bend light in a curved path around the object to be hidden, the observer would actually see right around it to the other side but the appearance is one of seeing right through it.
