Seriously...I've tried and I can't. Everything that is bad about weed is as bad if not worse in the form of cigarettes and/or alcohol.

I'm not one who thinks that marijuana should be legal because people do bad things when it is mixed with alcohol (which would be more common if it were legal). Anyway, a friend of mine said that marijuana was actually made illegal by lobbying of the paper industry and by Dupont(of all things). Hemp can easily be made into paper, and hemp could be used for carpet fibers as well. They were trying to eliminate the competition. Judges say that that wasn't as a compelling arguement as that of Henry Aslinger that testified that marijuana sent people into murderous rages and that it made "darkies feel equal to a white man". That's a shame on pretty much all accounts, but the ruling is upheld because marijuana is considered a schedule 1 drug because it has a high tendancy towards abuse, and no known medicinal value.

It should not be illegal, and there has never been given a good ACCURATE reason given why this is so.

I'm not for complete legalization yet (rather am for de-criminalization - misdemeanor fines for possession) for one reason:

It should be illegal to operate a vehicle while impaired. Unlike alcohol, that clears the system quickly, cannabis and it's metabolized by-products get stored in fat cells, which means they linger in the system for up to a month. This means it's more difficult to determine when the stuff got into the system, which would make it difficult to determine whether someone was driving during or shortly after getting high. If they solve that in a reliable manner, then I'm all for full legalization of possession and use, with strong penalties for high driving.

Actually, the reason marijuana BECAME illegal to begin with is because it was an easy way to jail the poor and minorities for any reason. Marijuana propoganda of the 1930s and up relied heavily on racial stereotypes.

Still, today, marijuana laws are on the books for everyone, but they are still more heavily enforced - as are all drug laws - against racial minorities.

Some people don't believe this, but if you look at history, and do your research it is true. Middle and upper-class white women have experimented with every drug known to man over the past 200 years, from heroin, amphetamine, cocaine, etc, to much more deadly prescription drugs. Marijuana was not often used by whites in the 1930s because of the rise in alcohol use and opiates. So criminalization of marijuana was mostly to target minorities.

In the case of all the other drugs listed above, every one of them became illegal at the point that large populations of racial minorities began to use them. This posed a disadvantage to whites, but like I said, it is a proven fact that whites are often sent to rehab or put on probation, while the poor and people of color are usually put in jail or prison.

Old fashioned laws...like it used to be the thing to do, to smoke, like if you wanted to be middle class...but marijuana was never for the upper classes so they banned it. If it wasn't for how the upper class used to smoke like chimneys, tobacco would probably be banned.
Also cigarettes, even though you get a nicotine buzz, they're not really mood enhancing [except when you're *not* smoking them, when you get really irritable...lol] and marijuana does change your mood...although it doesn't work on me, lol, I'm weird that way....

Marijuanna is illegal because it is not taxed. Since the government is not making any money off of it they decided it should be illegal.

There is no good reason that's why we still don't know! It's all the money that the drug companies can't make on it if it's legal.
