I too admire the medical profession. After working 3 yrs in ER, CICU, & NICU you see the doctors the way family, patients, & friends never do. These professionals hurt & cry in private just as the families do. You can't imagine how fast they try to get out of the room after giving "the" bad news so they won't cry in front of people. When patients & family hear us say, "Bed #1 needs..." we are not trying to be cold, we are trying to stay disconnected enough to do our job.

My sister is an Emergency Ambulance Technician and I admire them for all the things they have to put up with. She says that over 80% of the call-outs she goes to do not require an ambulance (i.e. drunk people needing picking up off the floor, only to give a volley of verbal abuse to the ambulance staff, vomit over them, then walk off)
Another category of 'customers' is elderly people, who should be being cared for via social services, family etc. She has attended a huge amount of calls where she has had to move elderly people from their chair to the bed, or even one where she had to wash the lady concerned.....they are NOT social services etc, they are the EMERGENCY services!

I admire doctors. That's probably the hardest job of all...
Too bad that not everybody can appreciate that, but that's a hard piece, what they do.

I admire surgeons. To have the ability to not to baff when they see blood and guts is amazing.
I also honestly admire nurses - they are so under-rated, under paid and do so much for patients.

Teachers. They really must be special people.
It's a profession which is getting more and more difficult as society goes down the toilet.
If you have a good one, tell them if they've made a difference.
