listen to your dad. I have a lot of injuires from skateboarding and somedays I can't walk right and my knees hurt and my shoulders have problems. All it takes is one big fall. So dn't matter how you look if you want to be able to walk right when you get older you will protect yourself the best you can.

YES, wear them !! They may look "geeky", but far less geeky than a wheelchair !! Also the gear today is MUCH more stylish than it was in the early 1980's

Gloves have saved my hands many times, and a helmet has save my LIFE twice while riding my bicycle.

I wish I had time to pull up statistics of those killed or crippled by NOT wearing the helmet... but it's time for work.

If you ever watch the X-Games, which is roller blading, skate boarding, bike tricks, and more, you will see that every participant wears them. They would tell you to wear them every single time you go out to board. Far more people will think you are nuts for not wearing that kind of protection, than will think you are a geek for wearing them.

if you're a beginner yes. yeah it's geeky, but dont you think it'll be a lot worse if you have bleedy elbows and knees due from constant falling down? you need them, man.
