I believe that every person in the world wants to be happy and content with their life. It is not wrong to strive for that. It is idealistic though, and not always realistic. Life will never be completely felicitous. However, if you can find peace during the times when your life is shaken, and the darkness of the world closes in on you, then there is no question that you will achieve personal happiness, because your strength carried you to it. Personal happiness is one of the most important accomplishments in life, and you should never divert from seeking it.

Of course happiness is the most important thing. Whatever else we do, we do it because, on some level or in some way, we think it will make us happy (or less unhappy).

The reason that this view is often criticized is that people think that you cannot be happy by doing good things, like being kind to others, helping people in need, etc. There are lots of sources of happiness, and there is no reason why we can't both be happy and be good people at the same time. Aristotle said (and I agree with him) that what makes a good person most happy is doing good things. Knowing that you are a good person will only add to your happiness.

Do what makes you happy! Forget what others tell you to do, or what family or friends expect. As long as you are not hurting anyone else, you should absolutely do whatever brings you fulfillment.

The most important thing, absolutely not. What I want most from myself is to be able to be content in my circumstances. If anyone is expecting life to make them happy, that just leaves too much room for disappointment.
I would say the most important thing is responsibility.

I do not believe that we find happiness in striving after happiness as such, but in doing something meaningful and in this fulfilling of a meaning or purpose, happiness is a natural by-product.
People are most happy if they give happiness to others and as a result they experience happiness themselves.
Ask yourself what makes you really happy? It is not having something but most likely happiness is experienced in giving something and then happiness automatically finds a way to us back.

I don't. do you agree with the saying 'what you want is not necessarily what you need'?. selfish people rarely seem to be happy (i may be wrong) as for those who look out for others happiness seem happier, 'what goes around comes around' maybe?. personnal happiness is so difficult to achieve that it should'nt be the most important thing.

Think Yin - Yan. There are times to be happy and there are times to be sad. We need both and they make us better persons. Some people are more creative when they are sad (Think all the artists in the world and you will find out that most of them were pretty messed up but they were genious)

Dont search for one word. We are human beings and we have feelings, exlpore all of them and learn to live full.

Yes, I agree. It is more than enough if everyone sincerely works for his/her own happiness... there would be no need for anyone to unnecessarily worry about anyone else and in any case, none of us has the power to make anyone else happy... each person must find his/her own way to happiness.

Have a good day.I think you are 'right on' but I suppose the happiness of those family members and close friends around you would have a big influence on your own happiness, don't you agree?

I agree.... but life is not that straightforward. There are times when we have to compromise even our personal happiness. We can however strive for personal happiness all the time.
