Five things ive learned
1#The more you love money the greedier you are towards others.
2#The less you do acts of kindness the less you care.
3# The angrier you are towards others the less empathy you feel.
4# The smarter you think you are the more you belittle others.
5#The more pride you carry the more you use others as a stepping stool.

A trick...a nasty trick.
It is calculated and conscience...intent only to harm and deceive. I have compassion for the clueless, joyless, loveless, but not the heartless...
I would not be so much cold hearted (opps I made a Freudian slip of the pen). Perhaps then I would be cold hearted--Briefly...

My brothers greatly approve of this question on the assumption that it is research for the self-help book "how to be cold-hearted."
I, however suspect this is not your intention. Should you wish to achieve cold-heartedness you may consider indulging in the seven cardinal sins. Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride.
Wrath is a personal favourite.
Try a little wrath.
Go on.

I like to think that I'm pretty easygoing, but if someone ever did anything to my kids, I would be as cold hearted as they come.

Many, many, things. Childhood exclusion or loneliness, abusive family members or any abuse for that matter, death of someone close to you, depression (but I think clinical depression is bullshit), extreme hatred directed at one person for a one reason, jealousy, greed, math, take your pick.
