My recovery disc doesn't offer it selectively and I'm not sure it would be there if I did the full recovery, and that would be a lot of work for something that may not work. The microsoft website just seems to run me around in circles. As another option, do you know another downloadable program with which I can convert .gif files to .jpg?

If you are talking about paint in the accessories folder in the start/programs menu then all you deleted was the shortcut. Go to the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" and right click on "mspaint.exe " and send to /desktop shortcut. After the sortcut is on your desktop go into "c:\documents and settings the into "all users" then "start menu" then "programs" then accessories". Then just paste the shorcut into here. Now it should be in your accessories folder.

you can just change the file extension from .gif to .jpg through rename. alternately, you may also open it through windows picture manager and save as XXXX.jpg
