Not optimum mode. Recommended mode: 1280 X 1024 60 Hz?

Hi all, recently I asked around about not able to play full screen games and some commented that it was my graphics card problem. However, after i tried to reformat last night, i tried changing the resolution and slide it to more than 800x600, I was unable to, the whole monitor turns black and showing a msg above. I was unable to even restart my comp or unplug and plug back remains the same message. So I tried it over on my dad's lcd which was 17" and it works fine with resolution, works fine with games full screen. Im using Samsung 913V 19" LCD, my dad's 17" Samsung LCD. It works fine on his, now I am unable to change my resolution and whenever i did, it turns black and gets hanged or msg appears. I do not experience such problem 2months ago when i reformatted and a year back when i bought the comp, can someone tell me the prob? Cos if its graphics, I wouldnt be able to use it on 17".I changed the settings and back to 19" but it doesnt work either.

hi, did what u said, theres no lost of driver there, unable to slide on 19" monitor but able to slide on 17" monitor.

LCD monitors always give the sharpest picture at their highest resolution. Lower resolutions are possible with some loss of sharpness, but not all possible lower resolutions and refresh frequencies may be supported. This monitor comes with its own software and though it's possible to operate it without it, it's recommended to have it installed to enable all its features.

The highest and hence the recommended resolution of your monitor is 1280 x 1024, at a refresh rate (also known as vertical frequency) of 60 Hz. So the best you can do is to set up this resolution and refresh rate.

The easiest way to do it is by temporarily using your dad's monitor. Boot it up and change the resolution to 1280 x 1024. Do not yet press "OK" but press the "Advanced" button first. Here you'll find various extra settings and one of them is the refresh frequency. Set it to 60 Hz. and press "OK." Now shutdown Windows and start it up with your own monitor. This should definitely work.

By the way, reformatting has nothing to do with the monitor's ability to display a picture or not. In case of further problems, feel free to contact me.

It sounds like the plug-n-play is not working on with your monitor.

When you are the Settings screen with the slider bar in the Display box does it say "Plug and Play monitor on . . ." Or "Default monitor on . . ." If it is Default then the plug and play is not working.

There are a couple of ways around this:
Install the INF file (Driver) for your monitor and then force Windows to use that driver rather than the Plug-n-play one.

Or Go into the Advanced options on the Settings window, select the Monitor tab and there will be a tick box that says "Hide modes that the monitor can not display" Clear this and then your system will let you pick any mode that you want.

Make sure the screen refresh rate is at 60 Hz, then you can either go back to the slider bar, or click on the Adapter tab, the List all modes button and then pick the resolution refresh rate and colour depth you want from the list.

you may have lost your graphics card driver, click on start, click on control, click on performance and maintenance, click on Systems, click on Hardware, click on device manager, click on the cross at the side of display adapter, if you see a question mark or yellow tag at the side then then it is not the right driver forthe card, or if it says anything other that what make your card is then again not the right driver for the card

Right click with your mouse on the desktop, click on properties, click on setting, see what your color setting are, should be 16 or 32 bit try moving the bar from there if they are 16 or 32 bit
