The first ape had no name - or at least, there is no record of a name being given to any ape by another.
Therefore, your question would be better if it did not start with the word who, which suggests a person. What was the first ape? Which was the first ape?
Studying the evolution of primates may give us the answer. The first proto-primates were probaly of the genus Altiatlasius. They did not have language and did not give each other names.
Palaeontologists later gave names to certain skeletons when they were discovered, but this still does not make the creatures people, so the names were simply ways to identify the findings, and we still cannot call them 'who'.
Look at the link I left - the text is very interesting. Have fun.

How nice of you to take an interest in your familie's tree! The first ape, the first tree person to lose their tale, was Looks too much at Stars, son of the People.
Looks too Much at Stars tried to pull the shiny dots from the Night sky to play with as a child and brought the Igigi from Nibiru to Gae, the Mother Planet. The Igigi were not all bad but not all good either and at first were welcomed as friends of the People.
One of the Igigi, Alalu, found the blood of the stone mother, gold, could be used to paint the sky of Nibiru and keep that old dame from dying her natural death and his brother Anu came to Gae to take her blood.
The People changed a little to better defend their mother Gae and started to look much as the Dream Timers of modern day Australia. They became warriors to defend the peaceful Mother and were a thorn in the side of the people of Anu's tribe.
Anu's son Enki stole one of the People, Luci, and used dark magic on her blood so that the People would one day lose the ability to connect to the Memories in dreamtime. Many days later an Orangatun gave the memory back to the People who now called themselves Man in the form of an Orange tree to his friend Melchizedek.
Melchizedek died but did not lose himself in the river of forget in the land of the dead. He fought his way back and became a son of a son of a Stone Cutter. He is still watching the people to find the People and carves his symbol, an equilateral cross enclosed in a circle, whenever he swings a hammer for the crew.
Some say Looks too much at Stars had to lose his beautiful fur and get a big cranium to hold the ideas some think is wisdom. The People say that if Looks too much at Stars needed to know something the Great Raven tells it to him and his fur is just fine, thank you very much. Live long and prosper, gold is malleable but not transmutable unless it likes you.
