Personally, I don't think it's fair to either gender. First of all, as a lesbian, I am kind of offended at the general population's portrayal of lesbians as simply a sexual fantasy of men. I find it neither flattering nor arousing. Of course I speak for myself here, but possibly other lesbians feel the same way. Also, I believe that because lesbianism is presented in popular media predominately for the purpose of arousing men, it promotes an unhealthy objectification of women.
I honestly don't why it is that two men can't kiss on a television show without getting criticism. Maybe traditionally in western culture, intimacy between women has been the norm, yet intimacy between men has been discouraged because people didn't want to have men who were soft-hearted. It's primitive instinct that has carried through into today's thinking.
Of course one reason people may be more up in arms about intimacy between homosexual men is because in the bible, homosexuality is criticized more often between men than between women. In fact I believe only one verse even mentions the act between women (but I would have to go look it up...). In a society that was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, this would have a lot of bearing on mainstream culture, even today.
I'll have to think more about this though. That was a really good question, btw!

Funny how all those who disagree with it are quoting/ citing the Bible, when in fact a same-sex legal union is a civil ceremony and nothing to do with religious teachings. Why shouldn't a couple who love each other, want to be together and share their love not be allowed to have a marriage? Ok, it shouldn't be a religious ceremony, but why would a gay couple want a religious ceremony, given that the marriage vows in a church ceremony talk about how marriage is to procreate? I thoroughly believe that a man has the right to act as next of kin, have joint adoption rights, and enjoy the same legal rights as heterosexual couples even if his choice of partner is another man. Same for homosexual women. I also have no problem with gay couples holding hands/ kissing in public. We live in a world of hate and prejudice, too often religion based (Israel/ Palestine, the whole Al Qaeda nonsense) and anything that allows a little more love and tolerance in this world is a good thing. BTW is my marriage not a "real" marriage as my vows were said in front of a registrar as opposed to a vicar (yes, I am female married to a man BTW). My daughter is not "exposed" to homosexual practices, she sees gay people holding hands etc and if she ever commented on it I'd tell her they were in love like mummy and daddy are. She's never even batted an eyelid to my friends holding hands (it's not liek they have sex in front of her FFS, they hold hands or have a cuddle, like my straight friends do). Thsi is not corrupting her, it's teaching her about diversity and acceptance, and I'm delighted my daughter won't grow up to be a homophobe.

There are more and more shows on TV now with gay men and women. I do not find anything wrong with this, as I know quite a few of both . They are normal people who choose to live their lives their own way, which they should be aloud to do. All the gay and lesbian people i know are very clean, tidy, respectable people. They are fanatical about cleanliness. They are all such good dancers. I think it is time everyone left them to live their lives the way they wish, and i send the best of wishes to all Gay and Lesbians everywhere.

Straight men fantasize about two women, the thought arouses them. Of course that helps the public be more excepting of lezs. As for the sinners it depends on who you ask, for example I am a member of the UCC ( United Church of Christ) and they fight for gay rights, it isn't a sin in the church's eyes. However for example the Catholics believe it is. For those who want to separate the gay men from lezs, and they use the Bible to justify their hatred, it says nothing in the Bible about lezs. However in Lev. 18:22 it says "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." They use this passage to pass judgment on gays, but in their minds it is okay for women because the Bible says nothing of it. (These are the people that make me sick.)

Please know that even though I have put this here it is for information only. I don't agree with this passage of the Bible. I am a proud Lez and have many gay friends, and fight for our rights.

I believe women are more sensual types of beings so people think more the merrier. However, guys are rough, dirty and just want to get their "5 minutes" of fame. Girls bodies look much better naked and we don't think "gay" when we think about women. I think it is just a double-standard where guys like herims of women but woman having more than one man at the same time is just gay. (Guy on guy action...not pretty) Just not pleasant to the viewing publc.
