When the thought comes into your mind that you want to forget, you have to say stop thought!! & FORCE yourself to think of some very very plesant thought, Its hard but you just have to do it cause thinking of things that make you sad etc will just pull you down

Completely sometimes.
Wish I knew how I forget - to switch off the bathroom light, - where I kept my RS 2000/- Sunglasses - what I read last week in the Clinical Medicine Handbook - so that I can change the habit.
Glad I forget many of the unpleasant things people told me, and many unfortunate events that happened in my life.
It probably has something to do with Learning ability of our brain. The brain learns certain things and does not wish to learn certain things and so doesn't. Nature of the brain is specific to each person and every person learns or memorizes a different set of events.

Once something becomes a part of one's understanding, it is has a room within one's self..... Even if one were to forget, it would always be a part of that individual, so much so, that it would return if only a simple thing. Such as a scent, or touch, a sight or even a song will bring a forgotten memory to mind.
Experience, is a grand thing!
Even if one were to pass as wind on the sleeve, one need not even look at another to the face to know that there was someone there.... Yet, it was an experience... the mind will never forget.

Ginger

Why forget. I prefer to remember as much as I can hold. Paid a high price to get this far, and I don't want to let any get away.

Think of other things until I don't remember anymore. (Is not actually hard to forget stuff.... poor memories run in my family).

When you remember something, it has been encoded into your brain so you can draw back on it for later use. If you have forgotten something it either didn't get put in "permanent storage" or it was never "encoded" correctly in the first place.
