It is a 1980 Matag built in dishwasher. We figured out the hook up for the wireing and to fill the water. but I can't figure out where the draining hose goes or attaches to. Yes I know it is old but it is in perfect working condition.

The drain hose attaches to the dishwasher probably by a nipple on the pump housing at the bottom of the machine, just above (or possibly just below) the motor. There are usually two such nipples; the other one goes to a hose which feeds a spray head. (The motor reverses rotation to determine which nipple water is pumped out of.) There may already be a hose attached to the discharge nipple, taped up to the side of the machine, if that is the case, the discharge connection attaches to the end of it. The other end of the discharge hose should go to an air check, a gadget that lives on or above the sink, and provides an air path to keep water from siphoning from the sink back into the dishwasher. The other hose from the air check connects to a nipple on the garbage disposer; be sure before attaching the hose that the slug which plugs that hole is knocked out and removed from the garbage disposer.

Find out if your local plumbing code requires an Air Gap. Some do, some don't. If not, run the DW drain hose up over the inside top of the cabinet next to it as high as possible (this prevents back-siphonage). Then purchase a dishwasher tee and install it into the sink drain line before the trap. Hook the DW hose to the tee and you should be good to go. If you have a disposer, connect as previously mentioned.

The drain hose goes from the dishwasher to the drain under your sink -- either to the garbage disposal or the drain itself, below the P trap. If you have a disposal there will be an inlet (about a 3/4 inch stub that has a cover on it) or if no disposal then you need a new tail piece for your drain-- it will have an inlet on it that is at about a 45 degree angle that accepts the drain hose from the washer. You can purchase one of these at Ace hardware for a couple bucks.

Usually it attaches to the garbage disposal. There's a short pipe sticking out that has a knock-out plug you remove, then run a hose from it to the dishwasher.

Within the plumbing drain line from the sink (usually 2 inch ID) you'd have to install a "Y" sleeve/connection/collar, below the P TRAP allowing that the dishwasher would drain into the same drain that the sink water exists to.
