18 million for 4 months from an out of shape 44 year old pitcher. What are the Yankees thinking? What sports fan could be happy about this?

When I say out of shape I mean he hasn't been working out or pitching since last year. Everyone else has gone through spring training and is in top playing form. If this guy can get a big pay day to play part of the season then why didn't Ricky Henderson get a shot? He's one of the greatest to every play and the guy couldn't buy a part time job a few years ago!

you are obviously not a sports fan... I'm not a huge baseball fan (I am a huge soccer fan), but even I know that Roger Clemens is arguable THE BEST PITCHER to ever take the mound. If I owned a soccer team, I'd sign him to a one-year, 100 million deal just so I could say "Yah, I have Roger Clemens"...

I dont think MLB should let him come back. If he wants to pitch, he should start at the beginning of the year like every other pitcher does. He shouldn't get any special treatment cause hes ROGER CLEMENS. I mean, he is a good pitcher. But still, he gets all the treatment in the world. Gets to take road games off if he doesn't pitch that series. Bunch of crap. Nobody else gets to take road games off unless they are hurt.

Roger Clemens is a phenomenal pitcher. You can be sure he has kept himself at a decent level of fitness since last season. At this point, the yankees should be thrilled anytime they can get a pitcher, no matter the name on the back of the jersey.

Way too much money for not even a full season, but last year he did have an era below 3.00 with a 7-6 record, and that with one of the worst run supports in the league.

He's a great pitcher, and still plays well, but the Yankee's are paying way too much. Steinbrenner is desperate, as he always is, for more talent.

It's 24 Million, and that is WAY too much for a not even one year deal for Clemens.

He did the same thing last year and he was successful. I wouldn't be surprised if he pitched only 3-4 months per season until he was 50. And he's NOT out of shape.

out of shape??? um, no, he keeps himself in excellent shape.

He's undeniably the best pitcher of the last 25 years, and he's still among the elite pitchers in the game, despite his age. That's why people bring him back.

Incidentally, I think it's $28 mil, not $18 mil. But who's counting?

Any fan who wants a shot at a ring. He showed he can still pitch if he could get 3 runs/game he'd have 20 wins.

Uh, because he can still pitch, and still win games. Clemens has actually gotten better as he's aged. I hope he sucks for them though, because I hate the Yankees.

2004 - NL Cy Young Award (seventh)

2005 - career-best, NL-leading 1.87 ERA

2006 - 2.30 ERA, not enough innings to qualify but nearly 0.7 better than NL leader Oswalt (2.98)

I don't see where his career is fading yet.
