There are different kinds of violence: racial violence, domestic violence, violence against women, and political violence, to name a few. Give me your taxonomy of violence. How would you organize the various types into meaningful and relevant categories?

This is a poll-type question -- I don't need "the correct" way of categorizing violence, I just want to collect opinions to see how people are thinking.

It sounds like you are talking only about criminal forms of violence, where one person is violting the perceived rights of another person to not have their lives or actions interferred with. There are other types of violence. Violent activity in footbal and boxing.

A person might divide types of criminal violence into institutionally organized violence and violence waged by and individual against another individual

There's evil unnecessary violence. most abhorrent to me in this order of sickening violence..
Violence against children
Violence against innocent populations.
Violence against the defenseless.
Domestic violence.
Violence against prisoners.
Of course all unjust violence is despicable, and the list is long..

And there's necessary violence.

When one perpetrates unjust violence, as above, on others, it sometimes becomes necessary to stop them with violence.

Often as in Iraq, collateral unjust violence becomes much worse than the targeted offenders., and a greater evil is perpetrated on the victims than they experienced before.

P.S. And don't forget not all violence is necessarily physical. Psychological violence is traumatic as well.
