Why Protestant Bible is different from those from Catholic? I mean edited and being cut off ? I have read two Bibles and noticed that. Who edited and isn't it SIN to edit Bible anyways?

The New Testament canon of the Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible are the same with 27 Books.

The difference in the Old Testaments actually goes back to the time before and during Christ’s life. At this time, there was no official Jewish canon of scripture.

The Jews in Egypt translated their choices of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek in the second century before Christ. This translation of 46 books, called the Septuagint, had wide use in the Roman world because most Jews lived far from Palestine in Greek cities. Many of these Jews spoke only Greek.

The early Christian Church was born into this world. The Church, with its bilingual Jews and more and more Greek-speaking Gentiles, used the books of the Septuagint as its Bible. Remember the early Christians were just writing the documents what would become the New Testament.

After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, with increasing persecution from the Romans and competition from the fledgling Christian Church, the Jewish leaders came together and declared its official canon of Scripture, eliminating seven books from the Septuagint.

The books removed were Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom (of Solomon), Sirach, and Baruch. Parts of existing books were also removed including Psalm 151 (from Psalms), parts of the Book of Esther, Susanna (from Daniel as chapter 13), and Bel and the Dragon (from Daniel as chapter 14).

The Christian Church did not follow suit but kept all the books in the Septuagint. 46 + 27 = 73 Books total.

1500 years later, Protestants decided to keep the Catholic New Testament but change its Old Testament from the Catholic canon to the Jewish canon. The books they dropped are sometimes called the Apocrypha.

There is a difference between the Bible and the word of God. Most parts of the Bible are God's word and some are not. Human beings decided which books to include in the Bible. We can debate whether the were right or wrong. All churches have gone through some kind of corruption and most still have issues on some front or the other. So, sometimes false books were written and slotted in to suit that church. Sometimes valid books would be left out to suit that church. Translation theory has issues of its own. How do you translate a certain word into another language when the original language has certain nuances attached. This is why we sometimes see annotated translations in Bibles. It is a sin to pass something off as God's word when it is not. It is a sin to change the Bible if you introduce corruption to it, either by adding something that is wrong or by taking away something that should be there. Translating the ancient scripts more accurately when a translator thinks of a better translation or when archaeologists learn a new fact, is perfectly acceptable. In fact, God demands that the translation is improved. That said, the Bible we have today is very accurate and has almost not changed an iota from those original ancient texts. More importantly, if the Holy Spirit dwells in you, He will help you to discern the truth. So, even if someone tosses nonsense into the Bible at a later date, the Holy Spirit will tell you it is a pack of lies. This is something religious people do not understand. They think the Bible itself is a guarantee of truth or will always guide them correctly. Rely on God, not on the Bible, even though most of it was written by Him.

The main difference is the middle of the catholic bible. They got books like Macabees in there in a section called the Apocrypha which is greek for hidden. The Bible was written by close to 40 different authors most of whom are known. Books like the book of Romans the identity of the author is clouded but many attribute it to the Apostle Paul or one of his students. Moses wrote the first 5. Some of the books were lost.

But the Catholic Church was the first ones to put the Bible together as we know it. They basically got the scrolls together and said this in and this out. Things that would disqualify a text for example would be thing like an obvious forgery or a text containing heresy.

The Apocrypha was one of the things that the Prodestants was against. But even the first version of the King James Bible had it included but set it aside in its own section. Later versions have had it since removed.

The Apocrypha does contain some miracles that seem a bit of a stretch but then again you can take them as faith as millions of Catholics do.

It is good reading and certainly would not hurt to read them. As for me NIV all the way

The Bible was largely written by four men-
Jeremiah, Baruch, Nehemiah and Ezra.

The two main periods of writing were
600-580 BCE and 450-410 BCE

Protestant Bible is different from Catholic because, protestants believe that you don't need to go thru the church to talk to God, or to be forgiven, and you don't need the priests permission to get married etc. it's always different because it suits the churches needs for the times. Catholic's were the first real branch of Christianity to be written by the Roman's, Constantine for example. They of couse want you to believe that it is a sin simply because they dont want you to leave their flock, it costs them lots of money, and we all know how much the catholic churches love the money. Imagine do you really think God wants you to ignore him and go talk to some priest in a box. God speaks to us directly right to our very own minds, hearts n' souls lets just believe in ourselves again and regain some of our own power back.

hmm Yeah it is a sin. problem is CHURCH is headquarters of the sinners. the Bible has been altered many times over the centuries. it wasnt done overnight
Protestants cannot stand Catholics and vice versa. so someone like Martin Luther. He probably had some heavy input into editions in the bible.

Yes, Revelation 22:18,19 NIV says:
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

liz is correct in what she says, but the inspiration of God is truth. Therefore the Bible is the word of God. What the catholics have done is to actually retranslate portions to support their doctrins. This is called the Douay-Rheims Version. Most obvious is the 10 commandments. They totally removed the first commandment, made the third commandment (Sabbath commandment) refer to Sunday, and divided the 10th commandment in two so you still can say "10 Commandments". Yes, I agree with you, it is a sin to do what they have done and call it truth.

God bless.

All versions of the bible have been edited. Since it was written by people, and not God, they simply chose what they wanted to go into it.

lost in translations, maybe. I hear the gospels are usually almost exactly the same. God knows that's gotta be the most important part anyway.
