my car recently died because i left the stereo on too long. it wouldnt start by just turning the key but when i turned the key and gave it some gas it would start up and stay started as long as i was giving it a little gas. as soon as i let off the gas it would die again. once i jumped it, it stayed on. what causes it to turn off when i let off the gas????

once the car has started, its got just enough power to keep it going when you've got the revs up (this turns the engine over faster and so turns the altenator faster, so making more power to fire it..

When you jump it, the battery is getting a short charge (while the leads are connected and you get into the car) so it will run for longer..

Best thing to do it charge the battery overnight (go buy a battery charger) and it will be fine :)

Good Luck,
Adam

Adjust your idling screw and check your fuel filter, it could be clogged with dirt.
