NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on May 15th
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I can’t see why you wouldn’t) resend this to everyone you know. Subject, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"
PLEASE PASS ASAP

Yes but consider this...STAY HOME MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!! As one other poster said here, May 15th is only 1 day and it will be made up for, (though I will not buy gas that day either). However, the oil co's have projected profits for the weekend mentioned, banking on all of those who go out traveling, spending EXTRA $$$ on EXTRA usage. STAY HOME JUST THIS ONE HOLIDAY WEEKEND OF YOUR WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE AND HAVE YOUR MESSAGE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR!!!!

I'm not clear on how buying no gas on May 15 will have a huge effect on price, but making up for it by buying extra gas on May 14 and May 16 won't cause a price increase.

The problem with the "30 cent" example in April 1997 is that it never actually happened. These "gas-out" days have been tried just about every year for the last decade and they have NEVER had an effect on the prices. The only thing that will cause gas prices to fall will be for consumers to use less gasoline.

This kind of thing has always made me wonder - do they really care? Won't they just make their money the next day when all of us on empty run to the station on May 16 and fill up? Really want to put a dent in oil prices? Cut back on driving, turn off the light, unplug the computer - in other words cut back long term on the energy you use...

No, I haven't heard of this till now, but I think it's a great idea. I'll try to spread this around and see if people bite.

The above answerer's idea of staying home on a major holiday is even better - would have more impact. People are just assuming that we are all going to keep paying no matter how high it goes - maybe it's time to send a message

I'm with you on this one, Lolly Legs, even though your prices for fuel are only a fraction over HALF what we pay in Australia, because May 15 is my birthday.

I like the idea too, because it will also send a message to Washington D.C. that they are not collecting their portion of taxes for that day. It will also send a message to the states as well for their participation in tax collections.

Yet I think we should make this protest once a month, until the politicians get the clue.
