Ok I was in a store the other day with my wife and kids and I was wearing an As I Lay Dying t-shirt and the girl behind the counter asks "You like As I Lay Dying??" of course she backtracked when I asked what that was supposed to mean because my wife and I both knew she was reffering to my age. I'm not that old (34) and I've been listening to heavy music for a long time, am I supposed to tone it down after a while, and go back to listening to the classic rock (Zeppelin, etc) that I got bored with years ago or what?

Actually I do like other types of music too, because I think listening to one type of music get kinda boring sometimes. Also it's kinda fun to mess with my wife when she gets in the car after I get out and she finds one of her Beatles Cd's in the player and not my Killswitch Engage.

listen to whatever u want!!! what difference does age make??? i`m older than u & i listen to rock, punk, industrial, goth & other types of music that younger people go for, but i don`t care!!! why should i start listening to elevator music just because i`m a little older??? age is only a number, after all...it doesn`t dictate how we should live or what we should like!!! i think music keeps u youthful!!!

Whatever your musical tastes are - enjoy them to the fullest. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about it. What you listen to only has to please you -- and that must have been a very young girl behind the couonter if she thought 34 was old!
Some of the hippest cats on the circuit are into their 60s and even older. Have you ever heard of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band? One of the finest jazz bands in the country and the average age of the musicians hovers around 80. But man, can they lay in some licks. And the bring crowds to their feet for standing ovations everywhere they go.
If you're an X-Zep fan, you likely aren't into jazz, but the point is, enjoy whatever it is you're into, and ignore what anyone else says, because their opinions don't matter a hoot. Music is music, art is art, theatre is theatre and there will always be a wide range within each category, to be enjoyed by people of all ages.

My personal opinion? Well, I listened to
Led Zeppelin when the were popular; or,
say... Jethro Tull, The Rolling Stones, The
Doors, etc.
But, having turned the "Big Five-O" in Feb
of this year, I've found I've mellowed-out to
a greater extent than I'd actually anticipated
I would. That's had a significant effect on
my tastes in music.
Now, I have a hard time taking in the heavy
metal groups of yesteryear; even The Who,
who, just a half-decade ago, I thought were
better than The Beatles ever were.
As this year began, I returned to the so-called
"one-hit wonders" of the '60s: The Cyrkle --
"Red Rubber Ball"; Classic IV -- "Spooky";
Donovan -- "Sunshine Superman," and, of
course, "Mellow Yellow"; Gilbert O'Sullivan
-- "Alone Again, Naturally".
I still have all-time favorite songs of The Who,
such as one their earliest hits, "I Can See For
Miles".
But, in short, you couldn't get me to listen to
"heavy metal" for even a mere 60 minutes...
even you you offered me $6,000 up-front to
do it. (And, as for "The Rolling Stone"... I have
lost my taste for Mick Jagger & co. entirely.)

No i don't think so. I'm a lot younger than you and I think that it's cool that my dad and I listen to similar music. My friends think it's cool too! My mom listens to classic rock and she's not so cool. Just be who you want to be. And as for the girl behind the counter, she's just never seen someone willing to express themselves in the manner that you do, and that is definately not a bad thing.

Don't be fazed by that bulls*it. These kids today think they invented music. I'm 47 and I run into that kind of stuff all the time. This sales guy - some kid - started bugging me in the record store once. He thought he had a line on me because I have gray hair and he started recommending James Taylor (who I hate) and other lamer music. I put on my polite face and started throwing names of NYC avant-rock bands at him. "Do you have anything by Elliot Sharp? no? What about the Fred Frith/Chris Cutler duet?" It threw him off bad. He started sweating and then said "I could order it for you, I think." He left me alone after that.

These kids think they invented music. You get to listen to whatever you want to as an adult, no matter what age you are. I'll tell you what, the musicians don't care how old their listeners are.

Not relatively, seeing that as a little one I didnt relatively have a style in track. But I have long past from... one form of rock to yet another. I used to love heavy steel and stuff... however now I like ... panic on the disco. and so forth. XD
