I think it is perfectly fine.
Although if you feel uncomfortable.
You may choose to call him something more in the lines of "Good Job Champ" Or "Good job little man" Or Mr. Man. It would be more masculine coming from his dad.

My son was called little man, then grew up and was called J-man during his preteen and teen years, and sometimes people still call him J-man. His first name is Justin.

:) I think it may only seem weird because you are a man saying it to a 10 year old boy. Women call kids, whether boy or girl, this all the time, but I guess it seems more acceptable because women are just this way. Men usually call their boys buddy or little dude or something like that. I wouldn't say it is weird if it is something you and your son are fine with, so it is really up to you. I personally would give my husband an odd look if he started calling our son hun. I would wonder if he was on something. Everyone has their own way. Your way is not wrong. It is just different ;). God bless you and your family.

It's okay if his first name is Attila, but otherwise...I'd recommend chosing some other term of enderment. It might be a good time to switch over before he enters full rebelious teenage mode or some of his friends catch you blessing him with that term of endearment. How about calling him...son? It's not that big a stretch from hun. Change the h to an s and you're within approved social norms.

Moms use Hun or honey universally for both male and female children..

Dads usually use hun or honey for female children with more masculine pet names like buddy or bud for male children..

You probably got the weird look because you are the dad...

While there is nothing wrong with it , it is a bit unusual...

no there's definately nothing wrong with it - i am a mom and my son is 35 lol but its a term of endearment, showing love and affection, dont let anyone tell you that its wrong - keep up the good work - there are a lot of dads out there that are too scared to show affection to their children, he will grow up and it will probably become a special joke with you both, keep him grounded knowing he can come to you at anytime with anything, just be there for him and to hell with the rest.

I don't think there is anything wrong with calling kids hon or honey. My male cousin actually had to ask my dad to stop calling him honey when he was about 16 because it was embarrassing him. So as long as your son is okay with it, keep doing it.

there is nothing wrong with that --it's just a term of endearment. i personally call my husband honey or hun, and the kids seem to get sweetie or sweetheart.

I do it all the time but I'm a mom. I've never heard my husband say it. Let people look at you weird, people in general are weird. I think its sweet.

No, it's not wrong, it's a term of endearment, and until your son hits puberty and tells you that it's "lame" you can get away with it-- so enjoy it while it lasts, which probably won't be much longer.

ps- never say it in front of his friends.
