Because most Americans don't even know where those places are.

But seriously, most of those are made in America for American audiences. Having America under attack is an easy way for the director to "draw" the home audiences into the action and make them care more about the outcome. Also, that way all the main characters are Americans so even the dumbest audience members can "relate" to them and feel like they're part of the action.

Also, in Armeddegon and Independence Day, the whole world was under threat, but the American characters saved the day. That makes the American audience feel good about themselves, which means thay make more money.

Good question! My guess is that these movies (which are American products) appeal to the American audience's subconscious anxiety about our vulnerability as an imperial entity. America is currently the only imperial state in the world, and as such, we are susceptible to attack. We displace this fear of "invasion"/"bombing" onto extraterrestrial or "natural" events. Did I just get all Freudian on you?

Everyone wants to destroy America. Don't you watch the news?
Not really. The movies are being sold to mostly Americans. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't recognize many buildings in Russia or Australia. (Except the opera house)

Here's a guess. Because the movies are made in America for American audiences?

They did!
It was mainly in America but they showed other countries in trouble.
And then how believable would it be if they were in other countries then the actors would either have to speak in a different language or have an accent and we may not buy that.

Armagedon had other countries in it remember? They just focus on America more because it sells more... it wont be as interesting to see Iraq blows up... although that sounds pretty cool though

Probably because more Americans watch the movies and they can relate better if they take place here.

They are made in America for Americans, maybe that has something to do with it.
