Hi
Some times it happens that windows shows a files Icon but wen u try to access it, windows saya that it cannot find the file specified! This is the problem with the FAT (File Allocation Table) entry for that file, Though the file may have been deleted physically its FAT entry was not removed that is why it shows its Icon but can't access it.
To solve this i would suggest you to run complete scandisk on that particular drive. This works at most cases but if this too fails u hav to go for much powerful tool such as NDD (Norton Disk Doctor).
TIP: Its usually a good practice to run Scandisk and Defragment every month.

hello there is many reasons for this problem.
1)
first you should confirm that the file to be deleted is in the hard disk. if it is not then u dont worry. it already has been deleted.
2)
if the file is there, then check the size of that file. if it is 0 bytes, then now also u dont worry the operating system shows this as the file simple file. restart your computer.
3)
if none of the above possibilities then check the path of the file. and try again the deletion operation on that file.
4)
finally this file may be the Virus file and you should update your anti virus software to delete the file.
5)
if no one is the reason then format that particular in which the file is exist.
these are the possible ways i know. if more please inform me to know the problem.
Thanks

Hassle-Free PC: Fix Stubborn Windows Install Errors
Source: http://www.pcworld.com/printable/article/id,122926/printable.html
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Warning The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is advised.
Microsoft has updated the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. With the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, you can remove a program's Windows Installer configuration information. You may want to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program if you experience installation (Setup) problems. For example, you may have to remove a program's Windows Installer configuration information if you have installation problems when you try to add (or remove) a component of your program that was not included when you first installed your program.
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does not perform the following functions:
• Remove Windows Installer
• Remove files of any programs that are installed by Windows Installer, such as Microsoft Office 2003
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility does perform the following functions:
• Provides a dialog box in which you can select one or more programs that were installed by Windows Installer
To do this, select the programs that you want in the Installed Products list in the Windows Installer CleanUp dialog box. After you make this selection, the utility removes only the Windows Installer configuration information that is related to those programs.
• Removes the files and registry settings that make up the Windows Installer configuration information for programs that you select
If you use this utility to remove the Windows Installer configuration information for your program and you plan to reinstall the program, you should reinstall the program in the same folder where you originally installed it. This prevents duplication of files on your hard disk or disks.

It sounds as though you have already deleted a file and you want to remove the rest of it, Right? If that's what you want to do download and install (but don't run yet) this free registry cleaner....http://www.ccleaner.com/ Now do a disk clean up, then a defrag , now run the cleaner. Reboot your Pc and run cleaner again. this should get rid of the file.
Hope it helps.

it either is already deleted or you are deleting a shortcut to the original file and the orignal was moved so the path no longer exists. Try searching for the file name in the windows search and delete if in there.

If the file is on your computer, move it to the c:\ directory, then go into notepad and type the following:
@echo off
del (filename here, including extension)
Save this as (whatever).bat, using Notepad to save it as "all files" instead of your usual text document, and save it to the c;\ directory. Then run the file.

THAT MEANS THE FILE HAS BEEN DELETED BUT A SMALL PART OF IT IS STILL IN TOUR HARD DRIVE!
IF YOU DONT KNOW THE EXACT PATH OF THAT SPECIFIC SMALL FILE YOUCANOT DO ANYTHING!!!
EXCEPT IF YOU RESTORE YOUR SYSTEM ON THE 2 DAYS BEFORE YOU INSTALLED THAT FILE.

It's a glitch. You probably deleted already. Reboot and check again.
