It depends to a considerable degree on what you consider to be a road. There are reaches of wilderness where you could be tens of miles from anything more significant than a logging road.

There are some areas in Texas and Wyoming,Montana that are wide open, but there are always fire roads that go through most areas. Almost any state has open area, but the thing to remember is these places are usually uninhabited for a reason, if you get to far off the beaten path you may be in grave danger. The temperatures may be hot enough to kill you in a short period of time. I hope this helped.

There are a few places in Nevada where you'd be a good 30-40 or so miles from the nearest road, and those roads are probably pretty barren.

Considering that only 20 percent of the property in the United States is developed, I would say that distance would be great.

If you are meaning like your home from the road I think it would depend on state. I live in Oregon and your house can be as far from a road as you want it. Generally I dont think it matters.


Since that is the case, I have no clue lol. I never thought about it because it isnt relevant to me ^_^
