Well, it's an interesting choice. The X1950pro is an older generation of technology, but a full-featured card that's a great perfomer. The 8600GTS is a scaled-down version of the 8800 (currently the best card on the market)

If you're not running or plan to run Vista, save $50 and go with the X1950Pro, which has a slight edge in performance. By the way- DX10 will only be available in Vista, NOT under XP and earlier operating systems.

If you anticipate moving to Vista within the next year and want a card that can take advantage of DX10 when you do, get the 8600GTS. It's really just a question of whether you want a more versatile card that's slightly less fast?

Historically Nvidia has been better with drivers than ATI, but in recent months that situation has been reversed- such is the price of being first to market with new video technology like the 8800/8600 series...

Here's the head-to-head comparison of those 2 cards:

The 8600GT is a stable card on your budget and that i prefer to advise it over the 2600 or 3850 you have regarded at from ATI. in case you do finally end up increasing your funds i could stronlgy advise the 8800GT from nvidia because it is easily one among the suitable playing cards on the marketplace and exceeds something the 2600 or 3850 can handle.

If you have vista and your a gamer go for the GTS. It's future proof and will make dx10 games look amazing.
