I've always kept them, just assuming that one day I'll be old and senile and would like something entertaining to read. But last week, I went to look up a certain date in 1996, to see if I had the right time frame for a legal question, and was MORTIFIED by the things I had written then!
I think they're a great outlet for thoughts/venting/wishing/confessing and such, but I certainly would never want mine to be read...
;-)

I don't really have any secrets, so I just maintain a blog. About ten people read it that I know of.

I think they are quite healthy. I'm a writer and a teacher of writing, and I've found that many people can truly help themselves by writing out their thoughts. It's also a good way to track other things like calories, exercise, emotions, etc.

Yes, I religiously kept one as a pre-adolescent, I think they are very useful, and it's fun to look back on them when your older!
