New York is in the Northeastern region of the US

It also has 7 regions inside of the state.

4.Great Lakes Plain

7.Appalachian Upland

Of those regions, it is in the Northeast.
Normally it is considered to be in the Mid-Atlantic states along with NJ, PN, DE, and MD because the other NE states (New England) share certain characteristics of manufacture, politics, agriculture, and history that mark them as different from NY and the states South of it which have certain things in common which mark them as different from the next tier of states which are considered Southern even tho they make up the whole SE corner of the US.
