I've never seen or heard of a lightning striking in the cities. Does it do that?

Lightning does strike in the cities. Most highrise buildings are equipt with one or several lightning rods. These metal rods attract the lightning and divert it to the ground through the buidlings metal outer skeleton--without causing great damage or starting a fire.

Yes. In cities there are usually many tall buildings that have lightning rods built into them. Therefore, there is usually nothing to report (damage, deaths, etc.) when lightning strikes in a city.

More people died in Moscow from falling icicles in 2001 (74) than people get struck by lightning in the entire US (64). You have a better chance of winning the state lottery than getting struck by lightning, especially in a city where there are so many tall buildings to take the shock instead.
